Though Patterson is getting his fair share of chances to show off his arm, the spring hasn’t come without challenges. “On the whole, I think he’s done a tremendous job of not getting impatient, but also having urgency to improve,” coach Justin Fuente said. Beginning last season, the NCAA allowed players to appear in up to four games and retain their redshirt. Since he played in just three games last season, he’ll be a redshirt freshman next fall. “I’ve had countless training hours, a bunch of film, workouts and stuff like that, so I’m basically good enough to (run the offense) at this level.” “We probably passed the ball 70 times all of my senior year,” said Patterson, a graduate of Solorio Academy in Chicago.
