8/28/2023 0 Comments Detached retina symptoms causes![]() So it’s either being stimulated by the gel pulling on it, in the process of the gel separating, or in the process of a retinal tear forming.” Though gel separation is harmless, tears are not, and you can’t tell one from the other by the nature of the flashes, he says. “It means the retina is being stimulated. “Flashes mean something is pulling somewhere,” he says. If you see brief flashes of light or lightning streaks in your field of vision, think of it as a message from your retina, Ferrone says. The problem: That separation also occasionally tears the retina, which can lead to a retinal detachment.Įye changes associated with diabetes and other diseases also can cause floaters. That separation, called a posterior vitreous detachment, can cause a small amount of bleeding and a sudden increase in floaters, he says. Typically, around age 60 or so, the vitreous pulls away from the retina, Ferrone says. This gel ball, called the vitreous, shrinks and becomes more liquefied as you age, creating blobs and strands picked up in your vision. But anytime a new crop suddenly appears, you should pay attention, Patel and Ferrone say. Floaters often are caused by age-related changes in the ball of gel that fills the space between the lens near the front of your eye and the retina in the back. Floaters you’ve had for a while generally aren’t cause for concern. ![]() The specks tend to be more noticeable in bright light, especially when you look at a white background, says Philip Ferrone, president of the American Society of Retina Specialists and a professor of ophthalmology at Hofstra University. They “can look like spider webs, or bugs floating in your vision, or just like a little bit of a dark swirl,” Patel says. Lots of new floatersįloaters are specks that seem to appear before your eyes but really come from inside your eyes. The most important changes to watch for: 1. ![]() Retinal tears most often are triggered, in susceptible people, by what start out as normal changes in the aging eye. The most common kinds of detachments happen after a tear develops in the tissue-thin retina, allowing fluid to seep behind the retina and loosen it. Left untreated, a detachment can cause permanent vision loss or blindness in the affected eye. When the retina peels off the back of your eye - like wallpaper sloughing off the wall of a steamy bathroom - it can’t do its job. ![]() That makes it much less common than major causes of vision loss, such as glaucoma and cataracts. Over a lifetime, about 3 in 100 people will experience a detached retina. That’s because, “generally, the sooner the patient is diagnosed and treated, the better the outcome,” says Purnima Patel, an associate professor of ophthalmology at the Atlanta Veterans Affairs Medical Center and a spokesperson for the American Academy of Ophthalmology. In fact, eye doctors say, there are clear warning signs that everyone should know. Your retina, the part of your eye that sends visual information to the brain, can be torn or even detached from its blood supply without causing you a bit of discomfort. But when something bad happens to one of your retinas, the light-sensitive tissue at the back of your eyes, you feel no pain. ![]() If you cut your finger or twist your ankle, it hurts. ![]()

If you own a Windows 8 computer and need to capture videos on the screen, we are here to help you. However, the process can be intimidating, especially for folks using the Windows 8 computer. They involve tweaking administrator privileges and the compatibility setting for the executable. These strategies are a bit risky, though. Previous versions of the Operating System will struggle to run it. It’s important to note, though, that Jing only works on Windows 10. It’s comparable to Facebook in speed and ease-of-use. Friends and family, though, aren’t required to create a profile. You have to have an account with screencast before you can send off any information. Share your workĪfter you download Jing and create a few files, you’ll want to share them. After clicking this notification, it starts immediately. This forces the application to jump to the system tray and a small button to pop up. When you’re ready to start, a window pops up with a marker in the middle, and you move this to your desired area. Jing uses a crosshair system for screen recording. The menu style is also simple and sits at the top left of the program as a drop-down menu. This is a major positive as it saves time in post-editing once you’re finished. Other programs, like ShareX, require a manual minimization before you can start with other projects that you intend to record. The software sits quietly in the background while you work. If you’re in the process of recording a video and the application stalls, you can lose your data. This doesn’t tend to have a direct effect on the output file, though. There’s no denying that Jing works very well. This means that it can interact easily with the OS. The program is constantly up-to-date with updates for the operating system. Jing comes with a few extra features as well. Every file you create is stored here for future reference. Every action is recorded in the history section. You can tell Jing to record or snap specific parts of your screen. These include text, colors, and miniature graphics. This program has extra editing tools to boot. There’s more than just a screen capture function. Still, it’s more in-depth for more advanced users. Beginners won’t struggle to complete basic captures and follow through with sharing. Programs built for screen capture, like this one, highly benefit from a fuss-free set of visuals. It feels like it could fit well on a mobile screen. Many consider it an app, rather than a program because it’s so light on system resources. The menu system is comfortable and easy on the eyes. Jing excels in its ease-of-use and fantastic interface. ![]() ![]() Information on how data was observed, collected and recorded Most recently, DQC proposed a data quality CDM 14 that builds on common elements of several prior data-quality frameworks.ĭATA QUALITY DOCUMENTATION RECOMMENDATIONS ![]() The DQC also advocates for publishing data quality metrics together with any observational data analysis, but points out that doing so can have unintended consequences, such as withdrawal of consortium data partners due to exposure of traditionally internal-only data quality indicators. See Table 1 for areas descriptions and example recommendations. Recently, the Data Quality Collaborative (DQC) published a 20-item list of data quality recommendations 13 that cover the areas of (1) data capture documentation, (2) data processing and provenance documentation, (3) data elements profiling, and (4) analysis-specific data quality documentation. 12 Similarly, the Mini-Sentinel network 7 has defined a series of quality checks. For example, Health Care Systems Research Network defined quality checks for data in their Virtual Data Warehouse. Data quality is often addressed within established research networks, but the full methodology and the actual data quality evaluation scripts may be available only to researchers participating in the network. 11 defined several data quality concepts and emphasized the ability to identify the origin of any data cell within the final analysis data set. 10 proposed a set of metadata to document data about data in a Primary Care Data Quality initiative in the domain of kidney disease patients. Wider adoption of CDMs 8, 9 also facilitates development of data quality tools that can be easily applied across multiple data sets.ĭata quality has been a subject of several past studies. In some cases, adherence to a CDM is a prerequisite for participating on a grant (or research network). 5, 6 In recent years, the biomedical informatics community has increasingly adopted common data models (CDMs) shared across many organizations, 7 because they allow the same analytical code to be executed on multiple distributed data sets. In some cases source data errors may affect a large number of patients (e.g., missing coding or loss of data), 4 and it can be difficult or impossible to distinguish ETL errors from source data errors. Some source data errors may be typos, and those typically do not follow a consistent pattern. ![]() Finally a third type of error is source data error, which occurs when the error is already present in the source data due to various causes, such as a human typo created during data entry or an incorrect default value assignment (e.g., birth year of 1900 assigned to patients with missing birth year data). A special type of an ETL data error is a mapping error that results from incorrect transformation of data from the source terminology (e.g., Korean national drug terminology) into the target data model’s standard terminology for a given domain (e.g., RxNorm ingredient terms or Anatomic Therapeutic Class terms). ![]() Depending on the ETL process involved, ETL data errors typically affect all source system data or some consistent part of it, e.g., when birth dates of the mothers of newborns are incorrectly loaded into the newborn’s record, or when a multisite data set has some subset of patients assigned to an incorrect location. Most data transformation also occurs in multiple stages and can span multiple ETL code files written by a variety of developers and teams. While ETL helps with data integration, it can also be a potential source of data quality issues when human mistakes are made in the ETL code. ![]() ![]() ![]() BD's comprehensive approach to the diesel performance aftermarket ensures not only quality products, but educated dealers and satisfied customers. ![]() Today, Valley Fuel Injection and BD Diesel Performance are one, with eight specialty divisions that focus on diesel power train components: Fuel Injection Calibration Department, Exhaust Brake Manufacturing, Electronic Circuit Design and Assembly, Transmission and Torque Converter Design and Remanufacturing, Turbocharger Design, Installation and Research and Development. Kobo thinks it's exciting to have your 'eBooks move with you,' but I feel like this doesn't make the eReader special: in fact, I feel like it makes the eReader obsolete. Once you have a Kobo account, you can read the books you purchase across all Kobo devices, but you can also read them on your computer and the Kobo apps designed for iPhone, iPad, and Android. You must first create an account with Kobo on your computer before you can set up your eReader and get going. I also found the setup for the Kobo Glo to be simple but time-consuming. I have to admit, there is nothing more disappointing than trying to load Google's homepage only to find the normally colorful logo flashing vigorously at you in black and white before it finally comes to a rest. The flashing is most extreme on the Kobo Glo while trying to use the web browser. I understand the need for Wi-Fi on an eReader such as this, to allow for ebook downloads and background information on books and authors, but a browser feels more like it belongs in tablet territory. The Kobo Glo also has an experimental browser that I found painful to use. The ghosting you experience in between screens might also take away from your overall reading experience. The Kobo refreshes every half dozen pages or so, but it can be very distracting. Fuente said he told Hooker he won’t hang his flirtation with transferring over his head. Hooker, who is also 6-4, entered the NCAA’s transfer portal for three weeks before deciding to return. You’ve got to do what’s best for your situation. “At the end of the day, you’ve got to look out for yourself. “Everyone has got their own situation,” Willis said regarding Jackson and Kumah. If anybody understands the need for a change of scenery, it’s Willis, who completed 213 of 364 passes (58.5 percent) for 2,716 yards, 24 touchdowns and nine interceptions last season. After the season, Jackson and backup receiver Sean Savoy transferred to Maryland, while starting receiver Eric Kumah and key backup tight end Chris Cunningham both opted to transfer to Old Dominion. With pressure to absorb a playbook while trying to stay on top of a rigorous curriculum, Patterson thought it wise to change his major to business. He’s adjusted his academic track after spending his first semester as a mechanical engineering major. He suffered what he described as a gashed finger when his right hand hit an offensive tackle, resulting in difficulty gripping the ball, but he’s since recovered. Though Patterson is getting his fair share of chances to show off his arm, the spring hasn’t come without challenges. “On the whole, I think he’s done a tremendous job of not getting impatient, but also having urgency to improve,” coach Justin Fuente said. Beginning last season, the NCAA allowed players to appear in up to four games and retain their redshirt. Since he played in just three games last season, he’ll be a redshirt freshman next fall. “I’ve had countless training hours, a bunch of film, workouts and stuff like that, so I’m basically good enough to (run the offense) at this level.” “We probably passed the ball 70 times all of my senior year,” said Patterson, a graduate of Solorio Academy in Chicago.
